The Actor's Studio
PHOTOGRAPHER – Michele Aboud
STORY – The Actor's Studio
STYLIST – Janai Anselmi
Michele and Janai collaborated on this project to translate the dynamic of Lee Strasberg’s Actors Studio in 1950’s New York, into a modern fashion narrative. Their direct inspiration was the famous Actors Studio on W44th St in Manhattan, where Strasberg developed the method acting technique.
They shot in a functioning recital hall, complete with stage, vintage furniture and well scoured floorboards. Janai was attentive to those local and international designers whose collections seamlessly fitted the brief with classic fabrications and retro detail; The key looks of the working actor’s wardrobe evolved into the parred down aesthetic present. The result was a modern take on the 50’s aesthetic, silhouette and energy of, among others, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Sidney Poitier.
